Did you know that the rate of breast cancer in China is four- to five- times lower than rates typically seen in developed countries?
Dr. Min Zhang of the University of Western Australia set out to discover why. She and her team studied over 2,000 Chinese women. Their first discovery was the health benefits of fresh mushrooms. The more mushrooms the women ate, the lower was their breast cancer risk. Their second discovery was that the risk was even lower when the women would drink green tea daily.
Dr. Zhang’s team studied over 1000 breast-cancer patients between ages 20 to 80. It included an equivalent amount of healthy women in corresponding age groups. Those who ate 10 grams or more of fresh mushrooms a day were 67% less likely to develop breast cancer than those who did not. Those who ate mushrooms and drank green tea were 90% less likely!
What makes mushrooms and green tea so special? First, they’re natural, what I like to call products of Hashem’s pharmacy. Fresh mushrooms have anti-tumor properties that can stimulate the immune system’s cancer defenses. Green tea contains antioxidant compounds called polyphenols that are also effective in warding off tumors.
Chop some fresh mushrooms in your salad daily or in an omelet for breakfast. Add natural green tea to your list of beverages. There’s nothing to lose and everything to gain. G-d bless for wonderful health!
